The vision of one man was the
genesis of the Hyde Park Baptist Church. There was a need for a
church in this growing community, and Pastor Davis Gage was
moved to plant a church here. Stepping out on faith, he and his
wife, Irene, rented a house and started small, with weekly Bible
Study classes. Within three years this newly formed church body
had adopted a church constitution and started construction of a
church building on Lister Drive.
In
the early 1990's, the church soon outgrew the original building
on Lister Drive. In 1993, construction was started on the
present church building on Route 9G. Over the next decade,
along with the physical building, the Hyde Park Baptist Church
extended it’s ministry beyond the borders of this area. We were
able to support a church planting effort in Dresden, Germany.
Soon to follow was church planting in Ukraine. Today, our
mission field spans across many horizons. We currently
financially support Pastor Victor Melnychuk (Lutsk, Ukraine);
Steve Hafler (Zambia, Africa); Care Net Crisis Pregnancy Center
(Poughkeepsie, NY); and the Brenna Engle Foundation (helping
underprivileged children in Ukraine).
Our
own outreach within the community includes the AWANA program,
Vacation Bible School (VBS), and the Baseball and Soccer
programs. Last year we had well over 200 children sign up.
Functions for our Seniors, Young Adults, and all those in
between have been a direct result of the church’s vision “to
open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light”, while
giving glory to God.
For
over 50 years, the Lord has tremendously blessed the Hyde Park
Baptist Church, and it is our prayer He will continue to do so.
We work diligently to be faithful to His Word, to maintain our
testimony and integrity for what He has called us to do and to
always be a church with a vision.
