WELCOME LETTER
TO ALL AWANA PARENTS
September, 2008
Dear Awana Clubbers and Parents ,
Welcome to the AWANA 2008 - 2009 Club Year!
AWANA stands for "Approved Workmen which Are Not Ashamed"
from II Timothy 2:15. AWANA is a club which involves games,
Bible stories and a focus on memorizing God’s Word. It is a time
in which your child will hide much of God’s Word in his or her
heart, and have a wonderful time making friends in the family of
God while doing it!
Listed below is the year’s calendar and important information
for you and your parents to remember. AWANA will meet every
Wednesday, except the following:
11/26 Pie Fellowship
12/24 & 1/31 Christmas Break
1/21 Church Annual Business Meeting
The last AWANA meeting is May 20, 2008. May 27th
will be our AWANA Award Ceremony. Any book ribbons, pins
and trophies earned throughout the year will be awarded during
this ceremony.
FOR ALL OUR CLUBBERS... The handbooks are designed
to be worked through "at your own pace". The program is designed
with one book per year (there is extra material for the
quicker clubber).
*Parents, please encourage your clubber to come prepared
each night with two sections ready in order to accomplish
this goal. We welcome a small notation of what you
practiced at home. All sections passed will contribute
one point to their team for the Team Competition.
*Please note: Scripture teaches us that we are to hide
God’s Word in our heart, so that we won’t sin against our Lord.
("Your word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin
against You." Ps. 119:11.) We are teaching your children that
God wants them to be really sinking scripture down deep in their
hearts, where they can later pull from and use in their life. Of
course, we want them to finish their books. But more
importantly, we want them to have learned their verses for life.
This way, they can pull them out as part of their armor against
the attacks of the roaring lion (Ephesians 6:17).
In order to help reinforce the importance of not just racing
through, this year we are encouraging a limit of
4 sections per week for Sparks and Truth & Training.
CD’s of the verses put to music are available for the
clubber books. These are a wonderful help in memorization for
the young ones. You may order them at the Check-in table for
$10.
Please Note the following requirements to receive Quarterly
ATTENDANCE AWARDS:
1. All Clubbers allowed one (1) absence of any kind, per
quarter.
2. There will be no make-ups, unless there has been attendance
at another AWANA program (i.e. Vacation). Please see Pastor
Nargi.
*Please note:
The AWANA nightly award time is at the beginning of each
night. That means that all awards will be given the following
week after they are earned. It also makes it very important to
be on time in order that your clubber does not miss his or her
time of recognition.
Remember, AWANA starts promptly at 6:30pm and ends at
8:00pm.
Be sure that you check in at the Attendance table each night to
be counted present. After you check in, clubbers are to go to
the Fellowship Hall.
Yearly dues are $20.00 per child. We have set a maximum amount
for dues per family at $50. If it helps to pay in installments,
just let us know!
And new this year... we are introducing a special hands
on night once a month. We believe that God has given each of us
the ability to learn and become skillful. We have designed a
series of projects to help the clubbers better develop that
ability. Our goal is to introduce a variety of activities that
encourage our youth to explore and experience different life
skills, all the while building good character and good habits.
Some of the activities will be for all the clubbers and some
will be divided by age and gender. The list might include such
topics as patriotism, missions, creative skills, cooking,
fishing, woodworking, electricity, computers...and the list goes
on. You might even see a goat or two wandering around one week!
We will be sending home more information as the year goes on.
And lastly, please join us at our Bible Drama Time
each week at 7:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. It’s proven to be an
exciting learning experience for all!
When the evening is over, all Cubbies will return to their room
and Sparks and Truth & Training will remain in Fellowship Hall
until individually dismissed by a leader, to their parent.
PARENTS - PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE CUBBIES ROOM, but wait at
the door for your child to be dismissed by their leader. This
procedure helps end our evening "decently and in order" and for
the safety of your child.
Thank You!!
